How to convert cm to feet and inches
An inch is exactly 2.54 cm, so a foot is 30.48 cm. Divide the centimeters by 2.54 to get inches, then take out the feet: every 12 inches is a foot.
- Inches = cm ÷ 2.54
- Feet = inches ÷ 12, keeping the whole number
- Inches left over = inches − feet × 12
- Feet and inches to cm = (feet × 12 + inches) × 2.54
Worked example
170 cm ÷ 2.54 = 66.93 inches. That's 5 feet (60 inches) with 6.93 inches left over, so 170 cm is 5 ft 7 in to the nearest inch (5′ 7″). Going back, 5′ 7″ is 5 × 12 + 7 = 67 inches, and 67 × 2.54 = 170.18 cm.
